Three rescue dogs, one devoted dog mom, and more than twenty years of advocacy — meet the hearts behind the books, the podcast, and the Paw It Forward mission.
The real Miss Olive was a tiny, special-needs rescue pup adopted from the Italian Greyhound Rescue of the Gulf Coast into her loving "furever" home in 2015. She had suffered from neglect and health issues, lost one of her legs to cancer, and lost her teeth from a lack of medical care. None of it ever dimmed her loving, sweet, and gentle spirit.
Along Florida's sunny Gulf Coast, the name Miss Olive became synonymous with uniting homeless pets with loving "furever" families. Much like her sister Sophia, she was truly a pup with a purpose. Her award-winning trilogy — Miss Olive Finds Her "Furever" Home, "Furever" Friends, and "Furever" Winter Wonderland — celebrates her "pawsome" life-changing adventures.
The sweetest little dog who touched and healed so many hearts crossed the Rainbow Bridge in May of 2022. Though she is no longer here on Earth, she lives on in our hearts, and her message of love and kindness continues. Learn more about Miss Olive's Celebration of Life.
The "fairytail" began years ago with a small dog named Sophia. Like Miss Olive, Sophia was a rescue who lived her early life in neglect, fear, and sadness, dreaming of finding unconditional love. Her dream came true when she was adopted into her loving "furever" home in 2001.
Despite her sad start, Sophia was destined to help others — becoming "the voice of the voiceless," advocating for homeless pets awaiting families of their own. In 2003 she became the co-host of The Doggy Diva Show, and in 2007 she co-wrote Diva Delights, a bimonthly magazine column, sharing her powerful message of "paying it forward."
After her passing in 2013, Sophia was honored by the animal community she loved, who came together to celebrate her life — even naming a star after her.
Since 2003, when The Doggy Diva Show aired its first broadcast, Susan Marie and her canine co-hosts have been committed to sharing important health and lifestyle information for pets and pet parents — with help from pet professionals, authors, and national industry experts. The show was inspired by, and continues to honor, its original mascot, Sophia.
Since 2007, Susan and her divas have penned the bimonthly editorial column Diva Delights, promoting animal adoption, fostering, and "paying it forward." She is the author of the Doggy Diva Diaries trilogy, recognized with the Moonbeam Children's Book Award, the Dog Writers Association of America's Maxwell Medallion, Creative Child Book of the Year honors, a first-place Royal Dragonfly award, and Top Honors from the National Parenting Product Awards (NAPPA).
A member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, the Dog Writers Association of America, and the Florida Writers Association, Susan Marie donates a portion of the proceeds from the series to animal-rescue organizations — and hopes to pass along her love of animals to future generations.
Meet Sophia (the OG Diva!), Miss Olive, and her Diva Dog Sisters Sassy, Coco, Fawn and Daisy Noelle.
